Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he should look at the “disastrous” legacy of the BJP Karnataka unit before targeting the Congress.
He joined the war of words between the Congress and the BJP over Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s speech on voter guarantees at a party event.
“Mr. @narendramodi, before pointing at Congress, take a good look at @BJP4Karnataka’s disastrous legacy in Karnataka! We are fulfilling all the promises we made to our people all 5 assurances spent on a budget of over Rs 52,000 crores, and an additional Rs. crores 52,903 in funds to build the future of Karnataka,” Siddaramaiah said in the ‘X’ post.
He pointed out that the BJP has left Karnataka with 40 percent commission corruption, taking away services that could have transformed people’s lives.
“We are using the same 40 percent to redirect it for the benefit of the people. What was your ‘success’ here? Empowering corrupt practices, leaving Karnataka in debt, and using propaganda to cover up your failure?” the Chief Minister wanted to know.
He also criticized Modi for his ‘bad governance’.
“And let’s not forget: under your watch, India’s debt is expected to reach Rs 185.27 trillion in FY25′” 56.8 % of GDP! This is not just bad management; it is a burden you are placing on all Indians,” said Siddaramaiah.
He said that while Karnataka has contributed a lot to the Union fund, the BJP government at the Center is hungry for the status of its quota which should prevent it from implementing the guarantee schemes.
For every rupee Karnataka gives, it gets only 13 paise. This is not ‘cooperative federalism’; it is complete exploitation, said the Chief Minister.
While the Congress in Karnataka launched, the BJP continues to fail Indians across the country, he blamed them.
Kharge on Thursday told Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar that they are fine under the financial constraints.
“Don’t dare say five guarantees, six, 10 or twenty. Give guarantees according to your state budget. If you give guarantees that exceed your budget, you will go to the bank. You will not even get soil to fill the road.”
“People will blame you. If this government fails, there will be nothing left for the next generation, you will only get a bad name and not a good one.”
In response, Modi launched a scathing attack on the opposition as he seized on Kharge’s comment that Congress units must deliver on budget promises properly.
“Congress realizes with pain that it is easy to make false promises, but to fulfill them properly is difficult or impossible. Campaign after campaign promises people things they know they cannot fulfill. Now, they have been misrepresented in front of the people,” said the prime minister.
