Recently, the mobile phone of the French Ambassador to India, Thierry Mathou, was stolen during the Diwali rush at Delhi’s Chandni Chowk market. The incident reportedly took place near the Jain Temple at around 03:20 pm on October 20 when the ambassador was visiting a busy market without security.
Although the Delhi Police has high security measures in this market, Chandni Chowk is known for frequent thefts due to the heavy footfall it receives. The police installed loud sirens in their cars to remind people to take care of their property because of the frequent thefts. But Chandni Chowk is not alone; there are many other large and crowded markets in Delhi where the police advise visitors to be careful.
- Sadar Bazar: One of the oldest and busiest markets in Delhi, Sadar Bazar also sees regular incidents of phone snatching. Delhi Police always advises people to be careful with their belongings in this area.
- Mayur Vihar: Frequent incidents of mobile phone theft and theft occur in the Mayur Vihar area of ​​Delhi, which calls for extra vigilance from visitors and residents alike.
- Karol Bagh: Karol Bagh, another crowded market in Delhi, attracts people from all over the country. However, cases of phone theft are common here, with reports appearing regularly.
