A new exchange is about to enter Singapore’s cryptocurrency space after the Gemini crypto exchange, also known as Gemini Trust Company LLC, received In-Principle Approval (IPA) from the country’s authorities to act as a Major Payment Institution (MPI). ) in the country.

This means that the government-owned Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has responded positively to the company’s application for a license to provide its services to those living in Singapore.

Citizens of the Southeast Asian country will be able to use the American crypto platform for cross-border money transfers and other digital payment services.

Gemini said receiving the IPA can be considered a milestone for the crypto company because it underlines its commitment to operating in a country with such high levels of regulation.

The crypto company added that this development only strengthens their commitment to the thriving crypto market in Singapore which already has other digital asset players such as Coinbase, Crypto.com, Binance, and OKX.

Gemini Essential Crypto Market

Gemini officials said that the cryptocurrency company made efforts to become part of the coin market in Singapore as the country was the heart of its operations.

Since the establishment of its regional headquarters in the country, the exchange has focused on expanding its presence in Singapore and other countries in the Asia-Pacific Region, saying that the company aims to deliver a local but secure trading platform that complies with regulatory policies throughout. region.

“We believe the regulatory frameworks put in place by MAS strike a balance between encouraging innovation and ensuring consumer protection,” Gemini said in a statement.

The Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, and Vietnam are among the Asia-Pacific countries where Gemini now does business.

Exiting the Canadian Market

Conversely, the cryptocurrency platform will close its operations in Canada, although Gemini is expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

Gemini said earlier this month that its Canadian customers have until December 31, 2024, to withdraw their cryptocurrency from the exchange platform because it will soon stop operating in Canada.

A new law enforced by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) that requires digital asset trading platforms to complete a “pre-registration offer” to continue operating in Canada has been linked by some analysts to this decision.
