Johannesburg – An unknown person hacked a student’s email account and sent abusive emails using the credentials of the Consulate General of Poland in Mumbai and officials of a medical science university in the European country, police said on Thursday.
Based on the complaint of an 18-year-old Mumbai student, Hiren Bhunje, a case has been registered against an unknown person. The incident occurred on Wednesday night when Bhunje went to the Parksite police station to complain about hacked emails, said the officer.
A teenager, living in Ghatkopar (West), has passed Class 12 in science and wants to study MBBS in Poland.
The aspirant had applied for a visa and submitted all the required information, including his/her email and ID. He also contacted officials at a medical university in Poland to be accepted through his email, the official said.
Around 11:25 pm on Tuesday, an unknown person illegally obtained Bhunje’s email and sent abusive emails to the Consulate General of Poland in Mumbai and university officials, he said.
According to the complaint, the defendant sent emails trying to harm the student’s career, prevent him from having his visa application rejected, said the police chief.
A FIRE under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and IT Act has been registered at Parksite Police Station in Vikhroli, and investigation is on, he added.
