WIRED reached out to every single US senator and member of Congress asking whether they would accept the election results as called by the Associated Press. Why AP? Because in the absence of a national election authority, the calls made by the AP—a non-profit organization—have long been accepted as authoritative. We wanted something politically neutral, especially since some local and state officials have indicated that they may not confirm the results.

In some cases, your zip code may not match your current congressional district, as district boundaries can change over time.
We organized the legislators’ responses into three categories: those who will accept the election results as reported by the AP, those who will not respond, and those who have not yet responded. This is a living document, and we will continue to update it with feedback from representatives as we continue to receive it. When possible, we include full responses from lawmakers to add further context to their responses. For example, some legislators may say they will accept results where states confirm but not based on the AP call.
A note was attached to the results of all lawmakers who signed the “Unity Pledge” in September, vowing to confirm the results after “all legal avenues” to challenge the result have been “exhausted.” Additionally, the results indicate if a representative has previously announced a commitment to “verify election results” as part of a USA Today poll conducted in mid-October.
