The State Government will soon issue a comprehensive sports policy to provide training to talented sportspersons and encourage them to win big in State, national and international level competitions, said Sports Authrority of Andhra Pradesh Chairman A. Ravi Naidu.
Speaking to the media at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in Vijayawada on Tuesday, 29 October, Mr. ‘Kreedandhra Pradesh’.
He accused the YSRCP government of using sports to achieve political ends and added that an inquiry would be initiated to find out where the money to the tune of Rs119 crore, meant for ‘Aadudam Andhra’, went and legal action would be initiated.
He recalled that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, during his tenure as Chief Minister between 2014 and 2019, had opened many indoor and outdoor centres, Kreeda Vikas Kendrams (KVKs) and multi-purpose centres. While 80% of the work was completed by 2019, the YSRCP government was not concerned about the remaining work being done, the chairman said. He said that the construction of the indoor and outdoor stadiums has been handed over to contractors, and 70% of the work has been completed and the focus will be on using Khelo India funds.
“Despite financial constraints, the Prime Minister strives to host national games in the State. Regarding this goal, he has instructed all the officials concerned to work together and ensure that all the necessary requirements are in place,” said Mr. Ravi Naidu, adding that they have started taking suggestions from various sports organizations in this regard.
Mr. Ravi Naidu appealed to NRIs, industrialists, former sportspersons from the State to help the government in its goal of getting global recognition for Andhra Pradesh.
