It has been almost 10 years since then Xenoblade Chronicles X it surprised around 27 people playing it on Wii U, but now that number is going to be even bigger.
The series that I once called “Nintendo’s most unsung” is now complete on the Switch, as Xenoblade Chronicles X: The Definitive Edition debuts on Nintendo’s current console on March 20, 2025. This new title from series developer Monolith Soft promises improved visuals and more story content for the epic RPG originally launched on the Wii U system that failed very late in its life cycle in 2015.
In case you missed it then (and you probably did), Xenoblade X it is narratively disconnected from the other Xenoblade games, making it a great place to go if you’re ever curious. It’s a massive open world RPG set on five different and beautiful continents on an alien planet called Mira, where humanity seeks refuge after Earth is destroyed by an alien war.

Its two main draws are a large open world and fully customizable mech suits that allow you to fly and open new areas. It’s one of the most memorable open worlds in recent gaming history, so much so that Nintendo enlisted Monolith Soft’s help in finding it. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at the finish line soon after Xenoblade X he went out.
You can also expect a bunch of cool stuff like a big city in Mira called “New Los Angeles,” and combat classes with names like “Partisan Eagle” and “Full Metal Jaguar.”
Almost ten years later, after several popular Xenoblade sequels and re-releases, the ultimate Wii U exclusive is finally coming to the Switch. Easy breathing, Xenoblade– heads.
