Martin Truex Jr. will retire from full-time racing after this season, and the imported Truex is not expected to focus on the track.
He hasn’t lived in North Carolina for at least a few years (he has properties in New Jersey and Florida) and most of his best friends have already retired.
The 2017 Cup champion plans to run in the 2025 Daytona 500 – he is expected to be with 23XI Racing but nothing has been officially announced. In addition, he has not decided his schedule.
So, just how often can drivers expect to see the Truex behind the wheel next year? We asked all the playoff drivers a few weeks ago that question.
Here are their answers:
Chase Elliott: Probably not. I think he runs the 500 but I don’t know if I’ll see him there. Zero percent. Good. That’s what it should be. He should enjoy his time.
Ty Gibbs: I don’t know. We text each other well. So maybe I’m texting him.
Alex Bowman: As he wants us to see him. He is a champion of our sport and one of the nicest guys in the garage. He deserves to be here as he wishes.
Kyle Larson: I don’t know. Of course we don’t see him much now. I think it will be really hard to see him next year.
Christopher Bell: One Cup race, maybe a few Xfinity races.
Chase Briscoe: I know the Daytona 500 sounds good. So let’s say I will only see him once.
William Byron: I don’t know. I think Martin will probably run one race. I would like to see him there. He is a great competitor and a very good driver. I would like to see him run more but I don’t know.
Brad Keselowski: We will see Martin twice next year. I don’t know where I got that number from, but it’s a guess.
Denny Hamlin: Three times. Fox: “You might see him a lot in your store.” Hamlin: I see what you’re doing there, Bob.
Joey Logano: I think we’ll see him … maybe he’ll run a few races here and there in some different things. But I think it will be.
Austin Cindric: I think in the Cup Series, it won’t. Maybe the Daytona 500. I don’t know him that well but from a glance, there are tracks you can associate him with like Richmond or Dover or Darlington, those types of tracks. I think it depends on whatever he wants to do.
Harrison Burton: I would say maybe five or six times next year. That’s my guess.
Ryan Blaney: More than seven races.
Tyler Reddick: Gosh. I don’t know. It would be great if he was at Lake Lloyd [at Daytona International Speedway] fishing. Same thing with Homestead, but I don’t know if there are many fish in that pond. If there’s a lake at the racetrack, he’ll probably be there. But other than that, I’m not really sure.
Daniel Suarez: It’s not uncommon at all. I don’t think I see much of him this year running full time. So next year, I expect to see Carl Edwards more often than Martin.
Martin Truex Jr.: I’m not sure either. I say I still look at you often. Definitely once. And then from there, my guess would be five, six, seven times. So we will see.
