In a swift counter-terrorism operation, the Indian Army on Tuesday successfully eliminated three heavily armed terrorists in Akhnoor area of Jammu and Kashmir in a span of two days. The operation, named “Operation Asan”, was led by Major General Sameer Srivastava, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division.
Narrating the details of this plan, Major General Srivastava said that the soldiers started the operation at around 07:20 on Monday and immediately completed it by killing all three terrorists who were trapped in the forest area near the village in the Akhnoor area, taking the number of soldiers killed. in a 27-hour battle near the Line of Control (LoC) to three.
Commenting on the success of the operation, Major General Srivastava said it was a “clean and successful operation” with no casualties reported to civilians or security forces except for the loss of the military dog ’Phantom’ who played a vital role in the search. to work.
Phantom was seriously injured on Monday while trying to protect the soldiers when one of the terrorists opened fire.
“The army will not allow terrorists to escape to harm civilians,” he said.
The success of Operation Asan, according to Srivastava, owes a lot to the local residents who have provided valuable assistance in detecting terrorist movements. Intelligence opinions had previously indicated that the major attack was planned by these terrorists, who appeared to be well prepared and familiar with the country’s situation, suggesting that they had been operating in the western region.
During the operation, the Army used advanced surveillance technology, including UAVs and artificial intelligence tools, to monitor terrorist movements, he added.
According to the military, the terrorists were wearing combat uniforms and carrying sophisticated weapons, including an M4 E rifle – a rifle reported to have been found for the first time in the region, sparking outrage over the extent of their plans.
Intelligence reports also suggested that the terrorists might have been preparing for the massive attack seen in Gulmarg, with the intention of killing more people before Diwali.
Major General Srivastava noted that although no recent infiltration has been detected in the area, these terrorists may have entered the region recently. Intelligence reports also suggest that around 50 to 60 trained terrorists are waiting across the border through multiple launch pads to enter India.
When asked about the recovery of the M-4 sophisticated carbine from the slain terrorists and the possibility of the Pakistan army directly supplying weapons to the terrorists, Major General Srivastava said, “The source (of supplying weapons) can be many and very difficult to imagine”.
