The Sharks outlasted Utah, winning in OT for their first win of the season

Alexander Wennberg scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the San Jose Sharks erased a three-goal deficit in the third period to beat the Utah Hockey Club 5-4 on Monday in Salt Lake City.

Fabian Zetterlund scored two goals, Mikael Granlund had a goal and two assists and Wennberg and Tyler Toffoli each had a goal and an assist for San Jose, which won for the first time this season (1-7-2). Jake Walman had three assists, and Sharks goalie Mackenzie Blackwood made 19 saves.

Matias Maccelli scored a penalty, and Dylan Guenther and Mikhail Sergachev scored for Utah, which has lost four in a row (0-3-1). Vladislav Kolyachonok and Ian Cole had two assists, and Connor Ingram stopped 40 shots in the loss.

Wennberg got a rebound off the end boards and beat Ingram for the first time of the season on the power play at 1:26 of overtime.

San Jose scored three goals in 1:50 of the third period to tie it 3-3.

Zetterlund tipped Granlund’s shot past Ingram for his second of the night and fifth of the season at 15:28.

Then at 15:53, Granlund got his point from Ingram who was checked for his fifth time this season.

Toffoli tied it 3-3 at 17:18, picking up Walman’s shot and beating Ingram for the fifth time.

The Sharks trailed 2-0 before Zetterlund scored at 9:12 of the second period. He powered through two Utah players and fed the puck short side to Ingram.

The hosts answered 1:26 later, as Maccelli took the rebound of Cole’s point and put a backhander past Blackwood for his second of the season.

Sergachev made it 4-1 with 24 seconds left in the second, beating Blackwood with a wrist shot for his first point of the season.

Utah outshot San Jose 11-9 in the first period and took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Guenther opened the scoring at 11:00, firing a shot past the Blackwood blocker for his team-best sixth of the season.

Maccelli doubled Utah’s lead, tipping Nick Schmaltz’s pass past Blackwood for the first time of the season at 16:24 of the first.
