A man is suspected of having stabbed and killed a 23-year-old woman because she refused to propose and injured her sister in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place at the woman’s house in Bhadwad village of Bhiwandi on Monday morning, said an official.
The woman was familiar with the accused Raju Mahendra Singh (24). They belong to the same place in Uttar Pradesh and are neighbours, said inspector Atul Adurkar of Shanti Nagar police station.
The fighter refused the defendant’s request, and is angry at the refusal, he said.
The suspect is said to have entered the woman’s house around 11:15 and stabbed her repeatedly with a kitchen knife until she fell, said the officer.
He said the suspect also attacked and injured the woman’s sister who came to intervene, and said the suspect fled the scene and is on the run.
The police were informed and the body was sent to the government hospital in Bhiwandi for examination, said the official.
Based on the complaint of the father of the deceased woman, the police registered a case under section 103 (murder), 333 (innocent house after preparation of injury, assault or improper restraint), and other relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Maharashtra Police. Action, he said.
