Vicki Gunvalson he will not forget how he found out about his mother’s death.
After more than nine years The Real Housewives of Orange County alum learned on camera that his mother, Joanne Steinmetzhad died, Gunvalson, 62, shares his memories of that “painful” day of filming.
“We were playing with Bunko Shannon [Beador]and my brother, my sister, my daughter, my son — everybody was trying to call me and the phone wasn’t working so they called production,” Gunvalson said. Peoplesneak preview of Real Housewives episode of Vice’s The Dark Side of Reality TV series. “[My daughter] Briana kept calling, calling, calling, and they kept telling her, ‘Well, you’re filming now, blah, blah, blah.’ He’s like, ‘I need to talk to my mom right now.’
According to Gunvalson, producers set up Beador’s wrapping paper room “with lights and cameras” to film his phone call with Briana.
In the fifth episode of season 10, viewers finally watched Gunvalson break down in tears when his daughter informed him of her mother’s death.
“I was upset that the producer knew for an hour, and they didn’t tell me,” Gunvalson said The Dark Side of Reality TV. “They were out of line, and I think they should have taken me aside and said, ‘Your mother has passed. Talk to your daughter off camera.’ If I were a producer, I would do that.”
“Let me scream and cry alone and then I go crazy,” he continued. “It was very traumatic. I will never forgive Bravo for that.”

Gunvalson continued on the show until season 13. Since then he has made several guest appearances, including during season 18, which is currently airing on Bravo.
Back in 2015, Gunvalson appeared Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen and they discuss the episode where he heard about his mother’s death. At the time, the host of “My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast” said he had not watched it.
Furthermore, she admitted that being a reality star will involve sharing the highs and lows of her life.
“I lost my mother and signed up to be exposed in all aspects of my life, the good and the bad,” Gunvalson explained. Andy Cohen at that time. “There are a lot of good moments on air and there are a lot of moments that I wish were not on the reality show. This is not a time that I feel, right now, that I regret.”
“I don’t blame Bravo, I don’t [production company] Evolution, I don’t blame anyone,” he added in a 2015 interview. “It’s my Life.”
While celebrating Mother’s Day in May, Gunvalson paid tribute to her mother on social media.
“I wish all those Mothers in the world, and I am thinking of myself and those in heaven, a Happy Mother’s Day,” he wrote on Instagram. “I love being a mother more than anything else and I am proud of it [my kids] Michael & Briana. My greatest gift in life is being a mother and grandmother 🤍.”
