Jaguars WR Christian Kirk is out for the season with a broken collarbone

Christian Kirk moved from the trade to the injured list for one game on Sunday. The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken left collarbone.

Coach Doug Pederson said Kirk underwent surgery Monday morning and will be placed on injured reserve.

“It’s hard for him, it’s hard for us,” Pederson said.

Kirk broke his collarbone when he landed on his shoulder while trying to make a diving catch on a deep pass in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 30-27 loss to Green Bay.

Kirk was wearing a sling in the locker room after the game.

It could end up being his last game with the Jaguars. Kirk, who missed the final five games of last season with a hamstring injury, has four years left on a $72 million contract and is expected to count $24.4 million against the salary cap in 2025. trade rumors in recent weeks.

With no chance to move him before the trade deadline now and Jacksonville potentially in danger of parting ways with a team that has lost 11 of its last 14 games, cutting Kirk next year would save about $11 million in cap space.

“He’s one of the best players I’ve ever been around, one of the smartest players I’ve ever seen,” Evan Engram said with a firm hand. “One of the best leaders I’ve ever been around.

“You also saw him today being cut. He was rolling. He was walking. It was a very bad incident. God does not make mistakes; there is a plan. … He will be fine.”

Kirk was one of six Jaguars — including all three starting wide receivers — injured in the game. Gabe Davis also suffered a shoulder injury, and rookie Brian Thomas Jr. left the game late with a rib injury that will require further evaluation on Monday.

He has 404 receptions for 5,176 yards and 29 TDs in seven seasons, the first four at Arizona.
