The Maryland Miracle won over the weekend, and the Commanders edged out the Bears in the battle for draft picks, but it was the two losses that shook my ranking this week. The Vikings and Ravens suffered disappointing losses, leaving an opening for the Texans and Packers to slip up.
Meanwhile, Chiefs and Lions continue to hold on to the top positions. And there’s an up-and-comer at the bottom of the Top 10, as the Bills and Eagles show they can be teams to watch in the second half.
Here are my Top 10 for Week 8 of the 2024 season.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
Last week: 1
Andy Reid’s team lacks the flash of some of his previous championship teams, but they keep winning by piling up quality competition. Led by a disruptive defense that creates turnovers and splash plays, the Chiefs can count on Chris Jones & Co. making enough game-changing plays to hold the squad until Patrick Mahomes regains his MVP form. Considering the Chiefs started 7-0 without playing No. 15 in his best football, the league should take a closer look at how the defending champions do this without relying too much on the quarterback to make each one happen. a week.
2. Detroit Lions
Last week: 2
Dan Campbell’s side focus on punching opponents in the mouth behind a dominant attacking line and a devastating forward defence. While Detroit’s dynamic talent often grabs the headlines, blue-collar players set the tone for a team built on grit and tenacity. With the Lions’ groove play capable of shutting down some of the offense on the edge, the NFC’s top team looks to be a strong contender for the title.
3. Houston Texas

Joe Mixon’s re-emergence as a top linebacker has lifted the offense without Nico Collins in the lineup. Mixon has four 100-yard games in five starts, flashing the power, energy and explosiveness that earned him Pro Bowl honors in 2021. As the Texans rely on limited action to take the load off CJ Stroud and fill out an opportunistic defensive unit that lacks air. opponents, Mixon’s production as a No. 1 back is essential to a strong start for the team.
4. The Green Bay Packers

Malik Willis doesn’t look like the same QB prospect that was on fire in Tennessee as a third round pick. Given the Packers’ pass-obsessed and adaptable defense, Matt LaFleur has a team that can win in a variety of ways.
5. Washington Commanders

Jayden Daniels’ legend continues to grow, and a Hail Mary cements his status as a hero. A powerful dual threat can single-handedly carry Commanders to victory even without his supporting cast playing evenly. As Dan Quinn continues to tweak the defensive structure and tactics to expand his staff, the Commanders can rest easy knowing that No. 5 can throw his cap and rescue them in any situation.
6. Minnesota Vikings
Last week: 3
The back-to-back losses led to some concern about the Vikings’ aggressive pressure tactics. The defense gave up too many big plays at key times due to blown assignments or poor defenders. Although DC Brian Flores turned back the pressure to balance his approach, the defense must get back on track before the rest of the division leaves the Vikings in the dust.
7. In Baltimore Crows
Last week: 4
The disappointing loss to a bitter team rival raises concerns about Baltimore’s defensive performance. The secondary offers big plays at an alarming rate, with a pass rush that can cover consistent coverage. Although John Harbaugh made some changes to the system and added a consultant to help DC Zachary Orr fix the issues, the Ravens’ defense could prevent them from challenging the AFC heavyweights.
8. The Pittsburgh Steelers
Last week: 8
A win over the New York Giants on Monday night will keep the Steelers in the hunt as a dark horse contender. With Russell Wilson becoming more comfortable running the offense as the new QB1, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith could expand the playbook to add diversity to a unit that relied on the down-and-pound approach in the first half of the season.
9. Buffalo bills

Don’t look now, but the Bills are becoming the juggernaut some envisioned when Josh Allen burst onto the scene. The MVP candidate challenges defenses with his unique talents as a dual-threat player on the perimeter. Whether it’s throwing lasers at pass catchers or thundering between the tackles on a designated QB run, the 6-foot-5, 237-pounder is an unstoppable force with the ball in his hands.
10. Philadelphia Eagles
Last week: Not in the Top 10
It took the Eagles longer than expected to find the spotlight, but the Jalen Hurts-Saquon Barkley combination has helped the team return to its roots as a grinding team with big-play talent. The duo’s physicality and dominance as runners set the tone for the offense in the best possible way when they push their opponents into the attack zone. With the defense hitting form under Vic Fangio, the Eagles are once again looking like a potential title contender.
