Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke about the cyber crime of “digital imprisonment”, noting that it has affected all sections of the society and urged people to use the slogan of “stop, think and act” in the face of such scam.
In his ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio show, Modi said investigative agencies are working with states to deal with the issue but added that awareness is important to protect yourself from this crime.
The prime minister played a video representing the people showing how these criminals pretend to be the officials of the institution to capture the fear of the people after collecting a lot of information about their victims.
He said, “Beware of Digital Arrest fraud. No investigative agency will ever contact you by phone or video call regarding such investigation.” Modi asked people to call 1930 to contact the national online helpline or to contact his website and inform the police about such crimes.
They should record such conversations and take screenshots, he said, referring to crimes that are regularly reported.
In his broadcast, the prime minister also praised the growing impact that Indian talents were making in the world of animation.
He said a wave of creative energy is sweeping India. ‘Made in India’ and ‘Made by India’ shine brightly in the world of animation, he added.

India is on the way to create a revolution in animation, and Indian games are also on the rise, said Modi.
The ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative is also making progress in all sectors, he said, noting that the country exports its defense products to more than 85 countries now.
