Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, while addressing the 115th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, warned people against the fraud of “digital imprisonment”.
In his monthly speech on the radio, the Prime Minister said that investigative agencies are working with the provinces to deal with this issue, but added that it is important to raise awareness among people to protect themselves from this scam.
“Beware of the digital arrest scam. There is no such system as digital arrest under the law. No government agency will ever contact you by phone or video for such an investigation,” Modi stressed, adding that there are three steps to ensure digital security.
He added, “Follow these 3 steps to stay safe: stop, think, act. First, stay calm and don’t panic. Record or take a screen recording if possible. Second, remember that no government agency is going to intimidate you online. Third, take action by dialing 1930 to contact the national online helpline and inform the police about such crimes.”
The Prime Minister also played a video that shows how criminals pretend to be officers of the investigative agency to capture people’s fear, collecting detailed information about their potential victims.
“The fraudsters impersonate police, CBI, Narcotics and sometimes RBI officials. Using various such labels, they speak as fake police officers with great confidence,” the Prime Minister said.
Urging people to take part in fighting online scams, the Prime Minister asked schools and colleges to organize campaigns and create awareness.
During the broadcast of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the Prime Minister also praised the growing impact that Indian talents were making in the world of animation. He said a wave of creative energy is sweeping India. ‘Made in India’ and ‘Made by India’ shine brightly in the world of animation.
