Mumbai Bandra Terminus Railway Station Stampede News Update: Several people were reported to have been rushed to a nearby hospital after being injured in a stampede reported at Platform 1 of the Bandra Terminus railway station—one of the five railway stations in Greater Mumbai—on Sunday, October 27. The Gorakhpur-bound weekly train was running slowly at Bandra Terminus station around 2:45 am when several passengers tried to board it and lost patience, according to sources. Train (22921) was supposed to start at 5:10 am on Sunday.
The rush of people to board the train caused chaos on the platform, sources said.
The train included 22 bogeys, according to sources.
About 2,500 people gathered on the platform, which has 1,000-1,500 people.
RPF, GRP and Homeguard personnel who were on duty rushed to the site and transferred the injured to Bhaba Hospital.
All the affected passengers are being readjusted, according to doctors.
The Indian Railways authorities have urged passengers to avoid the dangerous act of boarding moving trains.
Sunday’s incident comes at a time when the Railways has announced a number of special trains in different parts of the country to cater to potential traffic during the Diwali and Chhath festivals.
