More than 200 people were booked in the stone pelting incident that occurred during a protest demanding the demolition of a mosque that was said to have been built on government land here.

According to Uttarkashi Kotwali SHO Amarjeet Singh, eight people have been named in MONEY registered under different sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Prohibitory orders under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) are applicable across the district, said Uttarkashi Superintendent of Police Amit Shrivastava.
On Thursday (October 24, 2024), 27 people, including seven policemen, were injured during a protest by the Sanyukt Hindu Sangathan who demanded the demolition of a mosque in Barahat area claiming that it was built on government land.
The protesters sat on dharna on the Gangotri National Highway and started chanting ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ but when they tried to remove the barricades, a clash broke out between them and the police.
Officials said that some people started throwing stones, which the police started to fire with tear gas, then fired again and injured the protestors and the police. Flag marches are also being conducted without the deployment of additional police in critical areas, said Mr. Shrivastava.

District Magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht and SP visited the district and asked the officials to maintain order. Markets remained closed in response to the bandh call given by the commodity. The protesters alleged that the mosque built in Barahat area is an illegal construction on government land.
However, the district administration clarified that it was built in a residential area of ​​the Muslim community.
