Cooper Koch on Menendez Brothers Reinstatement Recommendation

Cooper Koch applauds the Los Angeles County Attorney George Gascón after formally recommending that Erik again Lyle Menendez they were convicted because of new evidence in their murder cases.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude and hope for the progress we have seen today,” the Monsters the star – who portrayed Erik in the Netflix series – wrote in a statement about his brother Payton Koch‘s Instagram Story on Thursday, October 24. “Gascón’s recommendation has sparked a new feeling that Lyle and Erik may finally be freed after decades of incarceration.”

Cooper, 28, continued, “But this journey is not over. There are still critical steps to be taken: the judge must approve a retrial, and, if that happens, the parole board must deem the time served as appropriate for the case. Our voices, our unwavering support, are still important—not only for brothers to secure their release, but also for all victims of sexual assault to be heard. Hope to see Erik and Lyle soon. I am free from all this.”

Koch’s statement comes at the same time Kim Kardashian talked about Garcón’s call to hate the brothers. Koch and Kardashian, 44, visited the couple in prison after the premiere of the Monsters last month.

“To the family of my brothers, friends, and millions who have been vocal fans – your voices have been heard,” Kardashian wrote in part on her Instagram Story on Thursday. “The focus of the media, especially on the heels of Ryan MurphyThe TV show, helped expose the abuse and injustice in their case. Public understanding of child abuse has changed, and social media gives us the power to question the existing system. This case highlights the importance of challenging decisions and seeking the truth, even when there is no question of guilt.”

Gascón announced the recommendation to reduce the sentences of the Menéndez brothers in a live press conference Thursday afternoon, explaining that if his recommendation is accepted, Erik, 53, and Lyle, 56, will be “eligible for immediate release” since they were under probation. He was 26 years old at the time of the crime.

“They have been in prison for almost 35 years. I believe that they have paid their debt to society,” he said, adding that “they are safe to be integrated with society.”

The motion is now on its way to a judge, who will request that his motion be referred to the Parole Hearing Board. The siblings will have to use the remaining balance of the new sentence or they may be eligible for parole.

Lyle and Erik’s story resurfaced after the September release of the Netflix limited series Monsters and a documentary The Menendez Brothers.

The brothers were convicted of murdering their parents, José again Kitty Menendezat their home in Beverly Hills, California, in 1989 when Erik and Lyle were 18 and 21, respectively. They were eventually sentenced to life in prison without parole in 1996.

Earlier this month, Koch and his Monsters costar, Nicholas Alexander Chavezhe revealed how they really felt about the Méndez brothers when they talked to them Vanity Fair.

Although Chavez, 25, plays Lyle in the controversial series, he kept his opinion of the two to himself.

“I came to a really unique conclusion, but I also came to the conclusion that I don’t want to share what it is with anyone, and that I really want to keep that part of my art and my interpretation to myself. ,” he told the newspaper.

At the time, Koch had no doubts about his status.

He said: “I believe both of them.” “I believe everything they said on the stand is true.”

On visiting the brothers in September with Kardashian, Koch added, “I have to give it to them [Erik and Lyle] I hug them and look them in the eye and just tell them that I believe in them and I stand with them, and I will do everything I can to stand up for them.”
