Walmart Worker Was ‘Locked’ In Store’s Oven Before Dying: Emergency Soundtrack

More disturbing details emerged after a 19-year-old Walmart employee was found dead in the store’s bakery oven over the weekend.

In a nearly 90-second recording of emergency calls released by the Daily Mail on Tuesday, a dispatcher tells peers about a request to respond to a woman “trapped in a bakery oven” at a Halifax, Nova Scotia, Walmart.

“The oven is on, I’m not sure if the workers know how to turn it off,” they continued.

One dispatcher later told co-workers, “A person trapped in… them… … If we ever get in touch with him.”

In response, the emergency dispatcher said the woman was “out of the oven when he arrived” and law enforcement was handling the matter.

On Tuesday, the city of Halifax released a statement, telling the public that provincial police are investigating the incident along with Canada’s Center for Occupational Health and Safety and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.

The statement noted that the multi-agency investigation is “complex” and could take “significant time” to resolve.

Although the city’s statement did not identify the deceased, a GoFundMe appeal created by an official of the Maritime Sikh Society identified her as Gursimran Kaur, who is from India.

Both Kaur and her mother had worked at Walmart for two years, according to a report from the India-based retailer NewsX.

In a statement released Tuesday, Walmart spokeswoman Amanda Moss told ABC News, “Our deepest thoughts are with our partners and their family.”

“We’re very focused on taking care of our partners and making sure they have the support they need,” Moss said. “Our store will be closed until further notice.”
