Donald Trump’s campaign has accused British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labor Party of “foreign interference” in the US presidential election after its volunteers traveled to America to help campaign for Kamala Harris.

The campaign has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission in Washington, demanding an immediate investigation into what it calls “obvious foreign donations made by the Labor Party of the United Kingdom and accepted by Harris as President”.

The complaint cited media reports and a LinkedIn post from Sofia Patel, the head of operations at Britain’s Labor Party, who wrote that “around 100” current and former Labor party workers will travel to the US in the coming weeks to help elect Harris. , vice president of the Democratic Alliance.

“Those who want to interfere with other countries in our elections should look no further [the] LinkedIn posts,” the complaint said. “The harassment clearly occurred.”

The centre-left Labor Party, which sees the US Democrats as an ally, took power in July. Starmer has sought to build a relationship with Trump, meeting him at his Trump Tower during a visit to New York in September.

Starmer, flying to Samoa, told reporters he did not expect the complaint to affect relations with Trump if he wins the election on November 5, adding that Labor volunteers have attended every US election.

“They do it on their own time, they do it as volunteers, I always think there are other volunteers out there,” he said.

“That’s what they did in the last election, that’s what they’re doing in this election and that’s really straightforward.”
