Despite speculation about former Minister CP Yogeshwar joining the Congress ahead of polling in the Channapatna Assembly constituency, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that anyone who accepts the Congress’ principles is welcome to join the party.
Answering questions from reporters in Mysuru, Mr. Siddaramaiah said he had not spoken to Mr. Yogeshwar on this matter.
Mr. Yogeshwar, who had hoped to get a BJP ticket to contest the bypoll from Channapatna, resigned from the Legislative Council on Monday, fueling speculation that he might join the Congress and get the party’s ticket.
Meanwhile, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the party will field MP Tukaram’s wife in the Sanur Assembly segment. Mr Tukaram had vacated the Sanur seat after his election to the Lok Sabha.
The party will soon announce candidates for Shiggaon and Channapatna Assembly constituencies, he said.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is also the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), will discuss the selection of the candidate for Channapatna and take a decision, Mr.
In another question, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that former MP DK Suresh, who is also Mr Shivakumar’s brother, was also on the list for the party’s Channapatna ticket.
Relief from rain damage
He said the government will issue compensation for the damage caused due to the destruction of the rain in the State.
He said the government is aware of the damage caused by natural disasters such as rains and is preparing to provide compensation to the victims.
The government received a report on the damage during an inspection of the rain-affected areas.
Mr. Siddaramaiah was in Mysuru to launch a series of development projects worth Rs 501.81 crore in the Varuna Assembly constituency, which he represents.
