Ford is issuing a warning to EV owners about Tesla’s multi-charger adapters

If you own a Ford electric car, avoid Tesla superchargers immediately.

According to a Ford service report seen by InsideEVs, Ford EV owners should stop using the company-supplied adapter for Tesla superchargers ASAP. You would expect to hear that the problem is on Tesla’s end, but in reality, it is not. Ford issued adapters to their EV customers that would have allowed them to use Tesla’s supercharger network and is now recalling them because they can have negative effects on charging speeds and can damage charging ports.

Elon Musk and Tesla sued by ‘Blade Runner 2049’ producers

Ford’s announcement confirmed that the company will ship new, potentially harmless adapters to EV owners soon. Ideally that process won’t take long and everyone can forget about this quickly because losing access to Tesla’s extended charging network seems too inconvenient.

Tesla’s Supercharger network has not been as useful to non-Tesla owners as they would have liked because competing EV manufacturers need to make adapters for their vehicles. Ford’s move to quickly roll out adapters to its customers may have felt like a godsend in comparison, but now, those big chargers are out of service for almost a few days.
