Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has launched a plan to use drones to spray anti-mosquito chemicals in waterlogged areas in the city. This is the first time that drones have been used in Delhi for this purpose.
A drone-based spraying program was launched in Narela area, from ward 33, Rani Khera. This program aims to combat animal-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya, along with ongoing public awareness campaigns to reduce the risks of disease.
Oberoi explained the problems caused by the record rains this year, which led to water spilling in different parts of the city. He noted that lack of proper drainage increases the risk of animal-borne diseases and stressed the importance of eliminating waterlogging as an important first step in preventing such diseases.
In the last 2 to 3 months, awareness programs have been held at many levels to educate the public about the prevention of animal-borne diseases. “The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is making every effort to protect citizens from animal-borne diseases by using modern technology,” said the Mayor.
Oberoi appealed to the residents to take part in preventing the accumulation of water in their houses, especially in areas like Rani Khera, where poor sewage has made it difficult to fight worms.
“There is no place to drain water in other areas in Rani Khera Ward, due to the record rain this year, it has been difficult to carry out work to fight worms here,” he said.
Keeping all these factors in mind, anti-mosquito chemicals are being sprayed in Delhi using drones for the first time. He added that this campaign will be carried out throughout the city.
