The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) held a meeting with CEOs of domestic airlines amid a series of bomb threats received by airlines recently, sources said.
Zulfiquar Hasan, Director General of BCAS, met CEOs of domestic airlines at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in Delhi, the headquarters of the Airports Authority of India.
During the meeting, Hasan assured the airlines that all safety protocols and SOPs are being followed, sources said.
A few days ago, moreover 70 planes operated by Indian carriers have received bomb threats which later turned out to be fraudulent calls.
On Saturday alone, more than 30 flights operated by various Indian airlines received bomb threats.
Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Vistara, SpiceJet, Star Air and Alliance Air have received threats. On at least one of the planes, a note was found in the toilet that said there was a bomb on board.
Recently, Mumbai Police, filed many FIRs over such threats, arrested a 17-year-old boy from Chhattisgarh regarding the threat to three flights from Mumbai on October 14.
Different police teams contacted Virtual Private Network (VPN) service providers and social media to get information about the threatening messages. VPNs hide IP addresses, making it difficult to track physical locations.
The Civil Aviation Ministry plans to implement stricter rules to prevent fake bomb threats, including putting perpetrators on a no-fly list.
