During the week, a citizen of Peru Zaira Bravo was in Buenos Aires and had the chance to run into a former member of One Direction.
“I knew Liam was here in Palermo,” said Bravo, 23, to himself Us Weekly. “We were trying to see him with my friend. We arrived at the hotel. We saw him. He greeted us, but we never thought these things would happen.”
Although Bravo couldn’t get a photo with Payne, he was able to see the singer interacting with fans from afar.
“He always proved himself [as] he is kind and respectful to the fans,” he said. “We came to see him. He always had time for us, to take pictures with us, at least some autographs. … But as they say, you never know what [going on] on the inside, even if you look happy on the outside.”
Us Weekly confirmed on Wednesday, October 16, that Payne died at the age of 31 following a fall from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires.

The first autopsy report received by Us on Thursday, October 17, he revealed that Payne died of “internal and external” bleeding. Police sources also told Us that it is not known “whether he jumped” or whether Payne’s death was accidental.
“Seeing what happened to Liam breaks my heart,” Bravo shared Us. “It’s something I can’t explain.”
When he first heard the news of Payne’s passing, Bravo said he initially thought it was a hoax. “I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I do not believe you. I’m still in shock.”
When they searched Payne’s hotel room after his death, police found the scene littered with alcohol, drugs and many broken items.
“Everything points to the fact that the singer was alone when he fell, and he was facing a certain incident due to drug abuse,” read a statement from the prosecutor’s office in Buenos Aires on Thursday, October 17, to Reuters. “The city police checked the scene and found things inside the room that at first glance – and pending expert confirmation – could be drugs and alcoholic beverages, as well as several damaged items and furniture.”
Payne has previously been open about his mental health issues and reached the 100-day milestone last year.
Since his death, those closest to Payne have chosen to celebrate his life and musical career. In addition to sharing their separate statements, Harry styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson again Niall Horan they came together on behalf of One Direction to honor their “brother”.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone knows, there will be more to say,” the boy band wrote on Instagram on Thursday. But for now, we will take time to grieve and deal with the loss of our brother, whom we loved so much. The memories we shared with him will be cherished forever. … We love you Liam.”
