Former One Direction singer Liam Payne died of multiple injuries and internal and external bleeding caused by a fall, Argentina’s prosecutor’s office said Thursday, revealing the first official results of the singer’s autopsy.
Payne, 31, who rose to international fame with boy band One Direction, was found dead after plunging from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, prompting an outpouring of donations from fans.
As fans and media packed the Casa Sur hotel in the Palermo neighborhood of Argentina’s capital, forensic investigators worked inside Thursday to gather evidence.
Buenos Aires police said they found Payne’s hotel room “totally trashed” with packets of clonazepam, a central nervous system depressant, as well as energy supplements and other over-the-counter drugs and “various things broken,” according to the report. The Associated Press. They added that a bottle of whiskey, a lighter and a mobile phone were found in the courtyard where Payne’s body was found.
