Tusker was found dead near Ballupete in Sakaleshpur taluk of Hassan

The tumker was found dead near Ballupete in Sakaleshpur district on Thursday (October 17, 2024) morning.

The elephant, aged between 25-30 years, is said to have died due to electrocution. Local people who saw the body informed the Forest Department officials.

Sourabh Kumar, DCF of Hassan, said A Hindu that the animal was found dead near a power pole. “He must have died due to electrocution. It looks to be about 25 to 30 years old. Veterinarians are on their way to the area. We will know the reason of his death after the post-mortem, said the police officer.

Many elephants were roaming in parts of Sakaleshpur, Alur and Belur taluks of Hassan districts. The recurring incidents of human-elephant conflicts in this region have made the people of that area protest and demand that all elephants in the area be captured and transported.
