Scrap collectors in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, sell everything from plastic bottles and electronics to all sorts of unwanted bric-a-brac to middle-class people – who can recycle or use raw materials to make something salable. Those involved in the Merkato market say the program provides an economic opportunity while contributing to curbing waste and mitigating climate change.
