BEFORE: 10/16/24, 11:25 am ET — Ex-boyfriend of a former Finnish hockey player Janne Puhakka it is reported that he has confessed to his crime of murder.
According to Finland YLE, Rolf Nordmo66, told police that he shot and killed Puhakka, 29, with a hunting rifle on Sunday, October 13 when Puhakka arrived at the apartment where the couple lived “to plan what was going on.”
Nordmo said he and Puhakka, Finland’s first openly gay hockey player, broke up a few weeks ago.
It is said that Puhuakka’s friend came to the apartment after being unable to contact him. The friend then called the law enforcement when he found out about the incident.

Janne PuhakkaFinland’s first openly gay ice hockey player, has died after an alleged murder. He was 29 years old.
Puhakka, who played for Espoo Blues and Espoo United before retiring at the end of the 2017-2018 season, died at his home with a Norwegian vet, Rolf Nordmothe Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat reported on Sunday, October 13.

Ilta-Sanomat reported that Nordmo, 65, is the suspect, but the police have not yet confirmed who the suspect is.
A detective inspector Matti Högman he told STT news agency that “there is reason to believe that the suspect’s actions were deliberate and malicious” and that “the suspect and the victim know each other.”
Shortly after Puhakka’s death was confirmed, he was the Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin took to Instagram to share a photo of the former ice hockey player with a broken love emoji.

In addition to writing a memoir about his life, Pahakka opened up about his relationship with Nordmo during a recent interview.
According to the athlete, at first he chose not to reveal his gender and relationship with his family, friends or colleagues.

“I was scared, and I didn’t want people to know about my gender,” Puhakka told the South West News Service in 2022.
Puhakka later came out to her family and shared that her boyfriend is 37 years old. He confirmed that his relatives took the news well.
“We find every comment funny, and once people start talking and getting to know us they tend to be very warm and welcoming,” Nordmo previously shared about people’s initial reactions to their romance. “I often say that Janne is an old soul in a young body and I am a young soul in an old body.”
When asked if they are planning to have children, Nordmo said they are focusing on enjoying this time.
“It’s important to be happy now, and I don’t see any reason to think about the future,” he said. “Who knows what’s happening around the corner?”
