Al Pacino Remembers Being Broke Twice Despite His Amazing Career

Al Pacino he opened up about his many financial struggles throughout his career despite being a successful Hollywood star.

“When I finished doing it The GodfatherI had no money, not that I ever had money, but now I was in debt,” wrote the actor, 84, in his autobiography. Sonny Boywith Page Six. “My manager and agents got a cut in my salary while I was living on welfare [ex-girlfriend] Jill Clayburgh.”

Pacino starred in the accompanying 1972 drama Marlon Brando again Dianne Keatonhe reportedly made $35,000 for his portrayal of Michael Corleone in the first installment. In 1974, he returned his role to a follow-up part because he needed more money. Despite having a steady job early in his career, Pacino says he struggled to make ends meet due to his changing lifestyle.

“I had about ninety grand in the bank and that was it,” he wrote. “I had a lifestyle to start. I had my house in the country, which I didn’t want to give up. I was spending and not earning; I was going outside but I didn’t go in.”

While dating Keaton, 78, Pacino said the actor told his lawyers that Pacino was “stupid” and needed to be taken care of. The Oscar winner eventually agreed to his then-girlfriend’s assessment, admitting that he “didn’t understand” how managing money and his career worked.

Pacino admitted that as he found more success on screen, so did his team. In addition to paying his employees, Pacino had three children to take care of, including daughter Julie Marie, who he shared with an ex-girlfriend. “My staff was growing, and I was taking care of two homes, my apartments, and an office, and I was supporting my children’s homes,” he wrote in the letter. “I was spending three or four thousand dollars a month, which is a lot of money.”

Pacino was able to get financial relief at one point, though he suspected the money flow came from an unnamed accountant who was convicted of running a Ponzi scheme and served time in prison. Because of this, Pacino says he ended up breaking down a second time.

“I had fifty million rands, and I had nothing,” he said. “I had a place but no money… The kind of money I was spending and where it was going was a crazy loss.”

Although Pacino had a generous bank account, he owned 16 cars, 23 cell phones and paid “$400,000 a year” to a local painter.

“I didn’t even sign my checks — the accountant signed them and I just let them go.” I wasn’t looking and he didn’t tell me how much money I had and where it was going,” he continued. “And I didn’t know who got what. It was about: Let’s keep this dumb actor going, and I kept track of who got what. I said: Let’s keep this dumb actor happy, keep him working, and he will reap the benefits.”

Pacino’s second financial struggle occurred later in life – the actor noted that the “big paydays” he was used to “were no longer there.” To make ends meet, he finally decided to accept the role Adam Sandler2011 comics Jack and Jill.

“To be honest, I did it because I had nothing else to do. Adam Sandler wanted me, and they paid me a lot,” Pacino wrote. “I love Adam, he was a pleasure to work with and has become a dear friend.”

After Jack and JillPacino shared that he made some “really bad movies” that he ended up saying. Pacino admitted that dealing with many financial problems in his life has helped him focus on his legacy now, which has led him to seek help from people who are “much smarter” than him.
