Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam on Monday insisted that government agencies remain vigilant, due to the severe weather. Pits dug for various projects including Chennai Metro Rail have been “fenced” with displays, he said.
When asked about some unfinished works in various parts of Chennai, including that of the Chennai Metro, the Chief Secretary said that the Greater Chennai Corporation has closed such potholes. The Roads Department has been directed to do so, he added.
Speaking to reporters at the Ezhilagam complex, Mr. Muruganandam said the onset of the northeast monsoon earlier this year is also forecast for heavy rains especially in the coastal and northern regions.
Explaining that the reservoir is always monitored, Mr. Muruganandam said, the last place in Chembarambakkam currently, was only 33%. The demolition work near the ports was nearing completion and the Deputy Chief Minister visited and reviewed the works, the Chief Secretary added.
