More than 60 people were injured in the strike of the planes heading to Binyamina in northern Israel, said health officials.
Israel’s ambulance service, Magen David Adom (MDA), said 61 people were injured in the attack – including three seriously. It added that 37 of them were taken to hospitals in eight districts, either by ambulance or helicopter.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, which they said targeted the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) Golani Brigade camp in the area, which is located between Tel Aviv and Haifa.
The armed group’s press office said the strike was in response to Israel’s attack on southern Lebanon and Beirut on Thursday.
The group says it is targeting a camp in northern Israel using “an array of aircraft”.
In a statement, the MDA said that apart from the three seriously injured, 18 of the victims were in good condition, 31 had minor injuries and nine were “worried”.
Israel’s censorship laws prevent the media from saying exactly where or where it was targeted, but some media sources say the area was hit by a low-level drone launched from Lebanon – a low-level weapon that apparently did not set off warning alarms.
Images captured by Israeli media show the injured being helped into emergency vehicles, including helicopters.
Many of the injured were taken to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center near Hadera – others were taken to hospitals in Tel Hashomer, Haifa, Afula and Netanya.
Details are still scarce but most of the injured appear to have been in a public canteen at the time and were taken by surprise. Pictures circulating on social media appear to show an empty hall with a hole in the roof.
