The president of the German Football Federation (DFB) Bernd Neuendorf made a clear anti-Semitic decision at the Julius Hirsch award ceremony.
“If you know our past, you cannot doubt the existence of the state of Israel,” Neuendorf told reporters on Sunday.
Looking “it’s a shame that certain things are being said again here in Germany and that people don’t know the history that is our responsibility.”
The DFB is “clearly on the side” of the Jewish community, Neuendorf stressed.
Every year, the DFB awards the Julius Hirsch prize to clubs, institutions and people who use football to promote democracy, human dignity and the fight against racism, discrimination and discrimination.
“Every submission (to the award) is part of hope for us in difficult times,” said Neuendorf.
“It’s about respect, being together, and everything football should stand for. We know that unfortunately that is not the case everywhere in our society.”
