Billie Eilish there is nothing less than noteworthy about the current state of pop music.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times published on Thursday, October 10, Eilish, 22, was asked if she feels threatened by the success of other pop artists Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter again Charlie XCX.

“Are you kidding? I’m very happy with these challenges,” he said to the media. “It’s a crazy world when you get to the level they’re facing right now, and they’re doing very well. The fans love them because they’re so good.”

In the interview, both Eilish and her brother Finneas, who was also in attendance, spoke about the current debate about parasocial relationships and whether or not fans have lost their sense of boundaries when it comes to their favorite pop stars.

“It’s lost,” Eilish told the outlet.

“You look back at the Beatles, and it’s the same thing. It’s just that everyone has a camera now,” added Finneas, with Eilish commenting: “You have to remember when you’re everyone’s new favorite artist it’s a big deal to them. It’s like seeing Bigfoot.”

Finneas replied, “And they’re scared of you when you’re new.” I remember Billie and I being at our second Grammys once Beyoncé talking to us for the first time. This was 2021, and he had such a popular game that it was like meeting royalty. I couldn’t believe we were talking to Beyoncé.”

He concluded, “But if I see someone who’s just starting out, when I haven’t had time to be intimidated by them, I might be more likely to walk away and be like, ‘I know who you are.'”

Eilish has previously spoken about her struggle to gain fame, saying in June that she “lost all my friends” after becoming famous at the age of 14. As for Roan, “Good luck, Babe!” The singer took to TikTok in August to set strict limits with his fans, especially those who feel entitled to photos or hugs when they meet him in person.

“I don’t want anything f— that you think you should be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity,” Roan said in one TikTok video. “I’m not insulting you—if you think it’s selfish of me to refuse a picture, or your time, or a hug. It’s weird how people think they know someone because you see them online or listen to their art.”

He added, “I don’t care if harassment and abuse, flirting, whatever, is normal for famous or famous people. I don’t care if it’s normal. I don’t care that this kind of crazy behavior comes with the job, my chosen field of work. That doesn’t make it OK. That doesn’t make it normal. It doesn’t mean I want it. It doesn’t mean I like it.”

Roan’s comments have since been praised by other singers such as the Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams. As for Eilish, the “Lunch” singer told LA Times of Roan’s comments, “It’s tough out here, man – tough.”
