A Nevada teenager charged with murdering a retired police officer is incompetent to stand trial

One of two teenagers charged in the death of a retired police officer who allegedly crashed his bike on a Las Vegas street has been found unfit to stand trial.

Jesus Ayala, now 19, has been moved from prison to a Nevada mental institution for evaluation, treatment and a trial if found competent, according to records. The commitment order stops the charges against him.

Ayala and Jzamir Keys, then 16, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and other charges in the death of Andreas “Andy” Probst, 64, a retired Los Angeles County police chief, Bell.

Probst was riding his bike in August 2023, when the video shows him being hit by the driver of a suspected stolen car, leaving him badly injured on the side of the road.

In the hit-and-run video, the driver asks, “Are you okay?” like a giggling rider records collisions on his iPhone.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, hit the — his,” he told the driver, then turned around. Hyundai Elantra we entered the bike lane behind Probst, who was wearing a red shirt and shorts as he shuffled along.

The passenger turns around, points his iPhone out the window and records Probst rolling to a stop on the side of the road.

“Damn, that n—- is out!” said the passenger in the 31-second clip.

“Oh, s—, we have to get out of here,” replied the driver in shock as he stepped on the gas.

Probst was taken to hospital where he died. The police arrested Ayala on the same day, and it is said that he was boasting that he would get off easily like a child.

“I will be out in thirty days,” he was allegedly caught saying officer body camera.

The officer replied, “You can get out of juvie in thirty days and move to adult prison, because that’s how bad it is.”

The incident report revealed that Ayala did not show remorse for the man’s death. “It’s just, f——, ah, hit-and-run. Slap on the wrist,” the girl casually told the officer.

The keys were he was arrested days later after sharing the sick photos with friends on Instagram, and the video went viral at a local high school.
