As the Labor Party Conference begins this weekend, Made in Britain, the trade body that unites domestic manufacturers through the use of the official Made in Britain Trademark, has issued a cross-party call for MPs to actively support domestic manufacturers.
The organization calls on politicians from all political parties to find, work with, and promote manufacturers in their areas, while advocating for policies that strengthen Britain’s manufacturing sector.
A group of senior British executives, including newly elected Chair Camilla Hadcock, will attend the Labour, Conservative, and Liberal Democrat Party Conferences to showcase the Made in Britain Trademark and its community of 2,100 manufacturers across the UK. Their presence aims to encourage MPs to take action through a three-point Call to Action:
Find Manufacturers in Your Area:
Members of Parliament are encouraged to identify and engage with manufacturers in their areas, recognizing the important role these companies play in driving local innovation, economic growth, and job creation. Made in Britain will help MPs by providing a contact list of local producers within 20 kilometers of their head offices in their constituencies, facilitating direct engagement and collaboration.
Champion Economic and Social Value (ESV):
Members of Parliament are asked to advocate for policies that prioritize supply chain sustainability, sustainability, and social responsibility within the manufacturing sector. Made in Britain emphasizes the importance of British manufacturers in promoting a green and equitable economy, highlighting efforts to close the ‘circulation gap’ by promoting the use of recycled and reusable materials and reducing reliance on raw materials.
Support British Production in Parliament:
Members of Parliament can support the growth of the manufacturing sector by promoting a legal environment that allows manufacturers to thrive in domestic and export markets. This includes advocating for improved infrastructure, access to support services, and policies that favor productivity growth and sustainability.
The MPs attending the upcoming conferences will also be introduced to the Made in Britain Autumn British Manufacturing Barometer, highlighting the sector’s contributions to sustainability and social responsibility. The program provides MPs with valuable information about the origins of British goods and the important role of local manufacturers.
John Pearce, CEO of Made in Britain, emphasized the importance of MP involvement: “Manufacturers are at the heart of our economy, driving UK innovation and providing vital jobs across the country. Now, more than ever, it is important that members of Parliament play an active role in fighting for these businesses and ensure they have the support they need to compete on the world stage. By engaging with local producers and advocating for policies that promote supply chain localization, improved access and green growth, every MP can play a role in unlocking the full potential of UK manufacturing – building a sustainable and prosperous future for all of us. “
As the UK faces economic challenges, Made in Britain’s job title serves as a timely reminder of the importance of supporting local manufacturing. By promoting strong relationships between MPs and local producers, the organization hopes to drive meaningful change that will strengthen the sector’s resilience, competitiveness, and contribution to a sustainable UK economy.
