The Los Angeles Dodgers made some significant roster changes after veteran catcher Austin Barnes was placed on the 10-day injured list with a broken left big toe. As Barnes’ replacement, shortstop Hunter Feduccia was recalled to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Austin Barnes: Injury Hindered Season
Barnes was part of the action for Sunday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves. However, he was replaced by the team’s leadoff hitter, Will Smith, during the fifth inning. After the game, Barnes underwent an X-ray on his injured left big toe. The photo revealed a new fracture, different from the one he got a month ago.
The 34-year-old Barnes has appeared in 52 games in the 2024 season, marking his 10th year with the Dodgers. Despite his injury, Barnes managed to maintain a .261 batting average with one home run and 11 RBIs. He also proved his versatility by playing both catcher and second base.
Hunter Feduccia: A Rising Star
At 27, Feduccia is already making his mark in the big leagues. Earlier this year, he made his debut and has played two games for the Dodgers. His first appearance was as a shortstop on July 31, followed by a start at catcher on Aug. 25 against Tampa Bay. Feduccia boasts a .284 batting average with six home runs and 50 RBIs in his 82 games for Oklahoma City this year.
Joe Kelly to rejoin the Dodgers
In other team news, Dodger manager Dave Roberts announced that Joe Kelly, who has been sidelined with a shoulder injury, will return to the team. Kelly is expected to work out later this week when the Dodgers face the Miami Marlins.
