San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason is scheduled for tests to determine the severity of the shoulder injury that kept him out of Thursday’s win in Seattle.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Mason, who is playing as injured starter Christian McCaffrey with an NFL-leading 114 carries and 609 rushing yards, received X-rays Thursday after suffering the injury for the eighth time. He tried to get back into the game, but Shanahan said Mason was in a lot of pain.

“He thought he was going to be OK,” Shanahan said of Mason, who finished with 73 yards on nine carries. “He went back inside and it hurt him so much, he came out.

“I mean, the adrenaline during the games is a little different. We’ll find out more (Friday) when (the tests) are done and we get the X-rays and stuff.”

McCaffrey has not played this season due to an Achilles injury and his return date has not been publicly discussed by the 49ers. Isaac Guerendo took over as lead back with Mason out.

Guerendo had 99 yards on 10 carries in a 36-24 win over the Seahawks, including a game-tying 76-yard run late in the fourth quarter. Guerendo is a track and field wide receiver and played collegiately at Wisconsin and Louisville.
