France summoned Israel’s ambassador on Friday to demand an explanation after Israeli forces opened fire on positions guarded by UN troops, including the Naqoura base in southern Lebanon, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“This attack is a serious violation of international law and must be stopped immediately,” said the ministry.
France has about 700 troops as part of the UNIFIL mission. None of his troops have been injured so far.
The minister said that all sides in the conflict have a responsibility to protect the soldiers.
The Israeli military also said on Friday it was investigating after it was informed that two UN peacekeepers had been wounded “unknowingly” in southern Lebanon.
