Security forces have killed a total of 75 terrorists so far this year in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these terrorists killed, 60 percent were from Pakistan, Army officials told India Today.
The Pakistan-backed terror campaign is evident in the fact that only four local youths have been recruited by terror groups in the region, officials said. This means that Indian security forces eliminate one terrorist every five days. Of the 75 killed so far, most of them were foreign terrorists.
This includes 17 terrorists killed while trying to enter the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), and 26 terrorists killed during encounters in interior areas. The actions of the security forces have been an important step in curbing the growing terrorist threat.
Available data reveals that most of the 42 non-local terrorists killed are from five districts of Jammu region—Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, and Rajouri. In Kashmir Valley, foreign terrorists were eliminated in Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara and Kulgam districts.
Of the nine districts in Jammu and Kashmir where the presence of foreign terrorists was detected, Baramulla recorded the highest death toll, with 14 non-local terrorists killed in nine encounters. Most of the foreign terrorists in Baramulla were not displaced in Sabura Nala area of Uri sector, Main Uri sector, Kamalkot Uri along the LoC, and in the eastern areas of Chak Tappar Kriri, Nowpora, Hadipora, Sagipora, Watergam, and Rajpore Sopore.
The numbers show a significant decline in the presence of local terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir, leaving mainly Pakistani terrorists operating in the region. “The local terrorist group has almost been eliminated,” said the official.
In 2024, 122 people were killed in 60 terrorist incidents across Jammu and Kashmir, including 32 civilians and 26 security personnel.
