Five CRPF personnel, including a constable, were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday, officials said.
The incident took place at the Tarrem police station around 07:00 when a team of CRPF 153 came out of a mining operation, said a police officer.
The team was in Chinnagelur CRPF camp in the area.
During the exercise, which was conducted to track down IEDs and dispose of them, the security forces saw a cable connected to a pressure IED. While they were looking for a bomb attached to a wire, it exploded, injuring five workers.
The soldiers sustained injuries on their face, eyes and upper abdomen, a CRPF official said.
After receiving first aid, the injured dogs were transported to the state capital Raipur, which is 430 km away from Bijapur.
The injured personnel include CrPF Assistant Commandant Vaidya Sanket Devidas, Inspector Sanjay Kumar and constables B Pavan Kalyan, Lochan Mahato and Dhole Rajendra Ashruba.
The brigade is widely deployed in Chhattisgarh for anti-Maoist operations.
