At least four activists associated with the Students Federation of India (SFI) were arrested in Thiruvanthapuram on Tuesday when they tried to protest against Governor Arif Mohammad Khan.
SFI activists staged a protest in front of the Senate Hall of the Senate campus of Kerala University, where the Governor was participating in a conference organized by the Sanskrit department of the university.
They forced open the gates of the institute and ran towards the hall where Khan was participating in the lecture despite the guards, the media company. The PTI report.
Khan, who is also the Chancellor of universities in this province, was visiting the university for the first time in two years.
Although the police closed the doors and windows of the hall and prevented the protesters from entering, there was a small scuffle between the activists and the police.
Activists staged a sit-in in front of the Senate hall and held a meeting throughout the institution.
SFI leaders, who led the protest, later accused Governor Khan of trying to “cleanse” Kerala’s universities, The PTI report.
They also criticized him for the appointment of vice-chancellors in different universities in the province.
It is noteworthy that the Governor’s visit took place amid ongoing disputes with the state government and leftist organizations over the appointment of the vice chancellor.
