Kerala is making significant progress in the education sector as 21% of the best institutions in the country are owned by the State, said Higher Education Minister R. Bindu.
He was speaking after inaugurating a newly constructed study facility at the Government Sanskrit College here.
He said Kerala University and Mahatma Gandhi University got A++ in NAAC accreditation, while Kalady university and Cusat got A+. The government is undertaking projects with the aim of making Kerala a center of higher education. Projects to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore were implemented using program funds and Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) funds. Most of these funds were used for the construction of educational and administrative buildings and the construction of modern laboratories and libraries.
The four-year degree program was introduced as a result of timely reform efforts in educational content. Apart from preparing students for work, those who are talented are encouraged to do research. In the last two years, 1,000 students who have excelled in academics have been given the Chief Minister’s Pratibha Award. In addition, Navakerala Post Doctoral Fellowship is also provided. The government intends to form public forums involving famous former teachers and education experts from inside and outside the country, he said.
