The Air Force Academy (AFA) in Dundigal, Hyderabad, witnessed a historic moment today as the Combined Graduation Parade (CGP) marked the successful culmination of the pre-commissioning training of 204 Indian Air Force (IAF) cadets. . The parade, which was presided over by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, saw the commissioning of 178 men and 26 women, who officially entered the ranks of the IAF with the President’s Commission.
For the first time in the history of the IAF, the newly commissioned officers included graduates of the Weapon Systems Branch. Nine officers from the Indian Navy, nine from the Indian Coast Guard, and one officer from a friendly foreign nation also received their ‘Wings’ on this important day, underscoring defense training cooperation.
The event started with a felicitation of the reviewing officer (RO), followed by a march past. The endorsement ceremony, which is the highlight of the show, saw the students pledge to protect the sovereignty and honor of the nation. The parade was highlighted by a synchronized flypast of Pilatus PC-7 MkII, Hawk, Kiran, and Chetak aircraft, demonstrating the precision and outstanding training of the graduating cadets.
Flying Officer Parag Dhankar of the Flying Branch was awarded the ‘President’s Place’ and the ‘Prince of Airmen’s Sword of Honour,’ while Flying Officer Ram Prasad Gurjar of the Ground Operations Branch also received the ‘President’s Plaque’ for special merit. .
In his address, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh praised the graduating officers for their transformation into honest and capable leaders who are ready to uphold the values ​​and traditions of the IAF. He highlighted the important role of space power in modern warfare and urged officers to remain steadfast, emphasizing integrity, teamwork, and physical fitness as the pillars of their duties.
The grand finale featured spectacular aerial displays, including a performance by the Sarang Aerobatic Team and the Surya Kiran Aerobatic team, which left the audience in awe. As the newly commissioned officers marched through the “Pag of Pratham,” the initial defiance from their juniors combined a spirit of friendliness and respect.
