We have two 2024-25 NHL outdoor games on the schedule this season. It’s the Winter Classic and Stadium Series games. The first will be the NHL Winter classic between the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks at Wrigley Field. The NHL Stadium Series is held at Ohio Stadium (Ohio State University) between the Detroit Red Wings and the Columbus Blue Jackets. We have schedules and more for your outdoor games below.
History of NHL Outdoor Games
The NHL began hosting regular season outdoor hockey in 2003. Since 2008, the league has held at least one away game per season. There are three different outdoor brands or championships used: the Winter Classic, the Heritage Classic, and the arena series. During the 2024-25 NHL regular season, we get to enjoy the Winter Classic and Stadium Series games.
2024-25 NHL Outdoor Games
There are two outdoor games for the 2024-25 NHL season. December 31, 2024 is the NHL Winter Classic. March 1, 2025 NHL Stadium Series game. The 2025 Stadium Series will be the first time Columbus has hosted an outdoor NHL regular season game.

The 2025 NHL Winter Classic schedule takes place on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. The St. Lous Blues play the Chicago Blackhawks. The game is played at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

2025 NHL Stadium Series schedule
The 2025 edition of the NHL Stadium Series will take place on Saturday, March 1st, 2025. The Detroit Red Wings play the Columbus Blue Jackets at Ohio Stadium at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
