Fantastic Four: First Steps
Could the third time be the charm in Fantastic Four? That’s what fans are wondering about this group of stars, who seem to be cursed when it comes to film adaptations of their work. In 2005, we got Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Chiklis, and pre-Captain America Chris Evans as a foursome; 10 years later, it was Kate Mara, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell. Because Fantastic Four: First Stepsthe cast is undeniably amazing: Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic; Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. But perhaps the missing ingredient in previous iterations has been the creative force behind the camera, this time Matt Shakman, who is best known for his television work, where he handled episodes of the film. Game of Thrones, WandaVision, The great oneand—too much—more than 40 installments of It’s always sunny in Philadelphiaincluding the fan favorite “The Nightman Cometh.”

Battle of Baktan Cross
Just because we don’t know what Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie is about doesn’t mean we don’t want to learn more. Mainly based on what we do know about it. Namely: It will be Anderson’s first film released in IMAX, and that it will feature a stellar cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Wood Harris, and Alana Haim.

The Bride!
Like the more indie Greta Gerwig, actress-turned-filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal has been quietly making a compelling film behind the camera. Five years after the Oscar nomination (second) in 2022 for Best Adapted Screenplay of The Prodigal DaughterGyllenhaal is following that film up—and jumping into the Universal Monster Movie collection—with this remake Bride of Frankensteinwhere the writer-director intends to infuse it with a strong sense of feminism. The film will reunite Gyllenhaal with Jessie Buckley, who directed her to a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in The Prodigal Daughter and here it plays the unknown partner of Frankenstein’s monster, which will be played by Christian Bale – reuniting Gyllenhaal with his original one. Batman the costar. Maggie’s brother Jake and her husband Peter Sarsgaard will also appear. Although it is the official release date of Guillermo del Toro Frankensteinstarring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth, yet to be announced, it sounds like this pair of films could make for a great little race.

Would it be a true year of movies if we didn’t get at least one ridiculous comedy from Yorgos Lanthimos? (Answer: no.) Will Tracy (The menu) will write the script for Jang Joon-hwan’s English-language version Save the Green Planet! The film will reunite Lanthimos with current muse Emma Stone, who will play the CEO of a large pharmaceutical company who is kidnapped by conspirators (one of whom is played by Jesse Plemons, now a member of Lanthimos’ regular stable) who believe he is special. alien with plans to take over Planet Earth.

No matter how much time passes, or how long it is the first time A photo seems to be disappearing from the cultural conversation, there’s no denying that James Cameron’s green people know how to put their butts on the seats. Despite the fact that it sounds like the second film in the series didn’t have much of a buzz after its release, and wasn’t met with a huge amount of positive discussion, The Way of Water somehow it made enough money ($2.3 billion and some change) to secure its spot as the third-highest-grossing film of all time—knock. The Titanic down to #4 and sitting just below the original A photo (2009) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). From what we know about the movie, the “Ash” of the title refers to a group of nefarious Na’vi who change everything we know about Pandora.

The Peaky Blinders
A year later Oppenheimer (and the Barbenheimer incident) made Cillian Murphy one of the world’s biggest movie stars, the Irish actor returns to his roots. For more than a decade, Murphy portrayed gangster-turned-politician Tommy Selby in the crime show created by Steven Knight, The Peaky Blinders. Soon, he will be reprising the part of Knight’s big screen version of the series. He’ll be joined by several regulars, including Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, and Paul Anderson, with a slate of exciting additions to the cast, including Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson, and Tim Roth. Or maybe we won’t see the big screen version The Peaky Blinders until the beginning of 2026, cutting our expectations will not hurt. Who knows—maybe it will help?
