10 Fall Nail Trends You Need to Know About (2024)

More than any other season, fall is defined by style. Chunky sweaters, knee-high boots, and layers (on layers). The second a cool breeze blows, I crave knitwear and scarves. And even though temperatures are still high in many places, you can get into the fall spirit by embracing the fall trends we’re thinking about in 2024.

Fall nail trends are the easiest—and prettiest—way to embrace the cozy luxury vibe. There is something for everyone. You can take the route of neutral tones and chocolates that reflect the changing color palette of the season. Or, you can be bold with text trends like chrome and 3D. Every visit to the salon is an activity of your own choosing. To get the inside scoop on fall’s emerging trends, I reached out to Molly Romah, head nail artist at Chillhouse, for her take on what’s hot this season.

Social media is abuzz with cover art for fall nail trends. Inspiration abounds in every opportunity. With each post, there’s something new to try and autumnal vibes to capture. Whether you’re looking for manicure pictures to show off your nail skills or DIY trends, there are new fall nails ahead that can change your look. Read on to get the best fall nail trends for your hands.

1. Cherry Mocha

This nail trend returns to the limelight every fall and somehow never gets old. Maybe it is the red nail theory or stylish but classy red nails can provide. Whatever the motive, I always lean towards dark, bold colors during the fall months. Going with this dark red is always a safe and elegant option.

2. Tonal Taupe

Taupe is an earthy shade that pairs well with a fall color scheme. Choosing a taupe that complements your skin tone can elevate your look while keeping your fall nails neutral if bold styles and new trends aren’t your thing. You can always change the style of your taupe nails by adding chrome or keeping them matte.

3. Coffee Turtle Shell

This might be one of my favorite nail polishes. Tortoise shell fashion seems to go in and out of many trends during the fall due to its warm color scheme and subtle pattern. I’ve also seen a few iterations of this trend pop up, including tortoiseshell French tips.

4. Bad Space

“Negative space objects can be symmetrical, off-center, geometric, or oddly shaped,” says Romah. These nails appeal to the minimalists among us and can be done in both short and long sets, making them suitable for a variety of nail types. The negative space look also highlights the natural health of your nails in combination with the complex shape.

5. French Colored Tips

French tips are a year-round classic for any occasion, and these colorful tips are always a great option to spice up the style we know and love. During the fall months, leaning towards deep browns, reds, or blues can help match the seasonal tones and the changing fashion palate of the season.

6. Deep Green

As we come out of the “brat” summer, deep green has taken over the fashion scene. These include deep, evergreen nails that look luxurious without skimping on words or designs. This color also looks flattering on all skin tones, making it an easy and fun way to brighten up your look.

7. The Moscow mule

I’ve always loved the chrome trend—from the glazed donut to the red of the Christmas ornament. Moscow mule nails are now taking the stage as a successor to chrome nails. This copper look tries to recreate the color of the much-loved Moscow mule glass with a neutral base and chrome or gold.

8. Ombre

Although ombré is nothing new, “these nails can be done in many colors and designs, and they can be subtle or bold,” says Romah. This trend leaves plenty of room to explore the season’s colors and designs to suit your personal tastes.

9. Marble

One of the resurgent trends on this list, marble nails are making a steady comeback in a new and improved light. Many fall styles of marble nails feature warm color schemes such as burnt orange and brown, maroon, and navy blue.

10. 3D Art

“3D nail art is very eye-catching and can be a great way to make your nails stand out and add an extra dimension to your look,” says Romah. These nails are bold and may take more time at the salon, but the results can be great. Some of the best 3D nails simply elevate your normal nail look by giving texture and line art to traditional designs.
